Features / Highlights

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP possesses several notable features that distinguish it within the legal community. However, it is important to present a balanced view, drawing from available public information and client feedback:

  • Broad Expertise and Deep Bench: As a large firm with numerous specialized practice groups and over 600 attorneys nationally, DWT offers a vast pool of expertise. This allows them to handle highly complex and niche legal challenges across various industries, from technology and media to healthcare and finance.
  • Commitment to Pro Bono & Social Impact: The firm actively engages in pro bono initiatives, partnering with corporate legal departments and leveraging technology to expand access to justice. This commitment to community service is a significant aspect of their firm culture, as detailed in their annual Pro Bono & Social Impact Reports.
  • Strong Data Security Measures: Davis Wright Tremaine emphasizes its significant investments in security infrastructure, including ISO 27001 certification, in-house cybersecurity professionals, real-time monitoring, and partnerships with secure solution providers. This commitment to data protection is crucial for clients entrusting them with sensitive information.
  • Industry-Specific Knowledge: The firm prides itself on having "knowledge of your market leveraged from years of working with the most successful companies in the world." This industry-focused approach means their legal advice is often tailored to the specific challenges and opportunities within a client's sector.
  • High-Caliber Professional Staff (As per one review): One glowing review highlights the "considerate and thoughtful" nature of their staff, specifically mentioning Courtney who went "above and beyond" to return a left-behind personal item. This suggests a firm where client care and attentiveness, at least from support staff, can be exceptional.

However, it is also important to acknowledge that larger firms, while offering extensive resources, can sometimes face challenges in maintaining consistent client experience across all teams and individual attorneys. One review specifically points to a negative experience concerning communication, efficiency, and perceived mistakes in an estate-related matter after a family death. This particular review highlighted:

  • Difficulty in Reaching the Lawyer: The client found their assigned lawyer "difficult to reach" and that it "took forever to accomplish things that needed to get done."
  • Mistakes Leading to Additional Costs: The client reported "multiple mistakes that we had to pay for - and not small ones either - both before and after my father's death."
  • Perceived Lack of Support in a Vulnerable Situation: The client felt their trust and money were taken advantage of during a "painful and vulnerable situation," leading to disappointment and a sense of not receiving the "customer support that we needed and paid for."

This demonstrates that while a firm may have broad strengths, individual client experiences can vary, and it is crucial for prospective clients to conduct thorough due diligence and consider multiple perspectives.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a large, established law firm, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP does not typically offer "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. Their pricing is based on the complexity, time, and expertise required for the sophisticated legal services they provide. However, like many law firms, they may offer initial consultations, particularly for complex corporate matters or significant individual cases, to assess client needs and discuss potential strategies and fee arrangements. For specific practice areas, such as their pro bono initiatives, services are offered free of charge to eligible individuals or organizations who meet specific criteria for access to justice.

Disclaimer: I am not a client. I am providing this review solely on how considerate and thoughtful their staff has been. I attended an event at Davis Wright Tremaine, and like a dummy I left a personal item there. I have been trying, and failing, for a month to go collect it. Courtney has kept an eye on it, protected it from the periodic Goodwill donation runs, and when I called to confess that I just hadn't been able to make the pickup happen, she offered to mail it to me. Honestly that feels so above and beyond anything their office had to do, and I am so appreciative. Based on the quality of their staff alone, I will absolutely keep this office in mind if I - or a loved one - am ever in need of their expertise.

After the death of my father, we decided to continue to use his lawyer from this firm to help us through the legal process involving his will and estate. She seemed competent and comforting on the phone, and we had peace of mind for a short while at the beginning of working with her. However, it didn't last long. She ended up being difficult to reach, took forever to accomplish things that needed to get done, and actually ended up making multiple mistakes that we had to pay for - and not small ones either - both before and after my father's death. We wouldn't be surprised if other clients hadn't had an equally frustrating experience with this firm, and we are hoping to save others from a similar experience in the future with this review. Putting your trust and money in the hands of someone who we felt took advantage of such a painful and vulnerable situation is hard to understand. It is disappointing and quite frankly hurtful. We really wish we didn't feel the need to write such a negative review, but we wouldn't have done it if we didn't truly believe we would be helping others by doing so. We had hoped that by placing our trust in Davis Wright Tremaine, we would have been guided through this difficult time and given the customer support that we needed and paid for. Sadly, that was not the case.
