Features / Highlights

Merritt, Webb, Wilson & Caruso, PLLC emphasizes several key features that aim to set them apart as a legal service provider for North Carolinians:

  • Extensive Attorney Team: With a firm comprised of "over 40 attorneys," Merritt Webb has substantial legal resources. This large team size allows them to handle a diverse array of practice areas and potentially dedicate significant resources to complex cases, offering a broad range of expertise to clients across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

  • Regional Presence and Experience: The firm operates across multiple states, bringing a broad perspective to legal matters. This regional scope, particularly with strong ties to North Carolina, can be beneficial for clients with legal issues that span state lines or require a deep understanding of diverse legal systems.

  • Focus on "Balancing the Scales of Justice": The firm explicitly states their goal is to use their "economies of scale to help balance the scales of justice for victims of negligence and to help small to medium sized companies (25-250 employees) at reasonable rates." This highlights a commitment to accessible justice, aiming to provide high-quality representation that might otherwise be out of reach for some.

  • Experienced Litigation Attorneys: Many of their litigation attorneys boast over 25 years of experience, particularly in representing individuals and families affected by catastrophic injuries due to negligence. This long-standing experience in demanding litigation contexts is a significant asset.

  • Diverse Practice Areas: The sheer breadth of their services—from personal injury and employment law to business, family, criminal defense, and estate planning—means clients can potentially find assistance for nearly any legal issue under one roof, providing a convenient "full-service" option.

However, it's important to consider client feedback, which in some instances, expresses concerns about the depth of legal research provided by staff attorneys and difficulties with responsiveness from referred attorneys within their membership plans. This suggests that while the firm offers breadth and scale, individual experiences may vary.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a large, regional law firm with a diverse range of services, Merritt, Webb, Wilson & Caruso, PLLC doesn't typically offer traditional "promotions" in the retail sense. Their value proposition and "special offers" are primarily embedded in their service model and membership plans. While direct discounts aren't widely advertised, here's what North Carolinians might consider as part of their offering:

  • Access to Legal Services via Membership Plans: Merritt Webb is known for working with legal service plans (such as LegalShield), where members pay a monthly premium to access discounted legal services. This is a significant "offer" for individuals and small businesses seeking ongoing legal assistance for various needs at a potentially lower, predictable cost. The firm itself states it provides services at "reasonable rates not found elsewhere" for small to medium-sized companies.

  • Economies of Scale: The firm leverages its size (over 40 attorneys) to provide services. This implies an "offer" of efficiency and potentially lower costs for clients, as the firm can spread overhead across a larger base, aiming to make quality legal representation more affordable. They explicitly aim to help "balance the scales of justice" at "rates that are usually well below the market."

  • Initial Consultation (Implied): While not explicitly stated as free for all cases, many law firms, especially those with a broad service offering, provide an initial consultation to assess a client's needs. The firm invites potential clients to "Simply call us and let us see if we can help," suggesting an open line for initial inquiries.

It is crucial, however, to acknowledge specific client feedback regarding the membership model, where one reviewer noted that the firm "will only refer to one plan attorney at discounted rates," limiting choice. The same reviewer, a former member, ended their membership, expressing concerns about perceived "liability" avoidance, and stating they "banked 400 hours" but wouldn't use the firm if sued, and found referrals "nearly worthless." Another review also raised concerns about information safeguarding and access by "dozens of unknown randoms." These comments suggest that while the concept of access through plans is an offer, the execution and perceived value may vary significantly among users.

Conclusion: Why This Place Is Suitable for Locals

For North Carolinians seeking legal representation, Merritt, Webb, Wilson & Caruso, PLLC presents itself as a firm with extensive resources and a broad range of practice areas. Their suitability for locals is rooted in their full-service approach, aiming to be a single point of contact for diverse legal needs, from personal injury to business law and family matters. With over 40 attorneys, they bring substantial capacity to handle various cases, which can be particularly appealing to individuals and businesses looking for comprehensive legal support.

The firm's stated commitment to offering services at "reasonable rates" and their use of "economies of scale" to "balance the scales of justice" resonate with the desire of many North Carolinians for accessible and fair legal representation. For those utilizing legal service plans, Merritt Webb serves as a primary provider, offering structured access to legal counsel, which can be a valuable benefit for managing ongoing legal concerns within a predictable budget.

However, it is vital for potential North Carolina clients to consider the mixed client feedback. Concerns raised about the depth of legal research from staff attorneys, the limitation to a single referred attorney within the plan, difficulties with responsiveness from referred counsel, and significant reservations about data security and transparency regarding who accesses client information, should be carefully weighed. While the firm offers the advantage of size and a wide array of services, the customer experience, particularly within certain service models, appears to have varied. For North Carolinians, direct inquiry and clear understanding of the specific service model and expectations are essential to determine if Merritt, Webb, Wilson & Caruso, PLLC is the right fit for their individual or business legal needs.

Full disclosure. This is the second review I have posted for Merritt Webb. Normally, just one to a customer, I say. In this case, it's impossible to update my earlier review since it came in through a now unused email address. Further, since it was three stars and I would now assess them at only 2 , the 1.5+ that the collective reviews furnished is about right in my opinion. In addition to my earlier comments about the quality of their staff attorneys' advice, Merritt Webb will only refer to one plan attorney at discounted rates. That means, if you are unwilling to work with him/her, you're pretty much out of luck. The staff attorneys I have used are willing to recite General opinion with regard to legal options, but to the best of my knowledge, none has ever performed even a modicum of research on the legal issues I have presented from time to time. The firm might do better by just hiring paralegals who are willing to look things up. It certainly would save them some money. In any case, if this is an example of the kind of legal help I would get if I am ever sued, I would prefer not to work with that firm. So much for my 400 hours of banked legal time with them. Most recently their Referred attorney failed to call me back after repeated messages. I view referrals such as this as nearly worthless. I've been a member since 2008, but ended my membership at the end of august, 2024. ' just what they were probably looking for: all of the premiums and none the liability. 1.5 Stars overall.

They definitely don’t have a customer service mentality. I also was not at all comfortable that my information was being properly safeguarded. I mean if dozens of people have access to your info is it actually confidential? Than they could refer you and keep all the info in their system with dozens having access and you don’t even know who they are. NO THANKS, I want to know my information is safe and who has access to it (John, Mary, and Susie) not just dozens of unknown randoms. How can anyone just trust like that?

I wanted to post this review because there are quite a few bad ones. I have legal shield and needed landlord tenant matters in NC. They did an amazing job! They got the issue completely handled within a matter of day! Every time I call an attorney is available. The intake and submission process is easy. It’s definitely work keeping the membership. Thank you Merritt Webb and to the attorneys who helped me.

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT use this firm for any reason. I have never interacted with so many rude, disrespectful, unprofessional, incompetent people in all my life. Do not ignore the other reviews with honest one star ratings. They are all true. My impression of Steven Gebo is he was very condescending, narcissistic, and unprofessional. He has a very smug disposition without the ability to have a professional conversation. He cuts you off mid sentence. He makes smug remarks and then laughs about what he says as if he is amused by his own disrespectful behavior and his ability to speak to people anyway he wants. Madison B. Marcantel- Started off fine. She delivers false expectations during the intake process and comes back empty with no progress whatsoever. Her attitude then becomes very unpleasant when she doesn't fulfill the expectation that she was confident that she could provide. Today, I spoke with Danielle Made. Let's start with she called me a 5:27pm. I am assuming that her day was just about over when she decided to call me. Now, this one was the icing on the cake for me. She is probably as bad as Steven. First, she does not allow the client to speak. She cut me off several times all in the short time span of three minutes. She asked me to explain my issue. As I was explaining, several times (and I do mean several) she very rudely and abruptly interrupted me. I asked her if she would allow me to finish what I was trying to say? She then suggested that I hurry up. I calmly explained to her that I will speak at the pace which is comfortable for me. She then hung up on me. Throughout this process, I did not feel that they were interested in representing me. I felt as though they were only interested in protecting the opposing party. I do not know what colleges are teaching these young people these days. It clearly is not kindness or professionalism. I hope that my unfortunate set of occurrences with this firm, along with the others that have shared their experiences will encourage you to look elsewhere for legal representation. No one should have to go through this. This goes beyond professionalism. This firm is verbally abusive to the clients they are supposed to serve. Shame on Legal Shield for partnering and connecting their clients with such an abusive firm.

Services were depending with which attorney we were assigned. I had signed up of 15 years then due to acc transferred there was a gap. I resigned again lately but the service was totally unhelpful, the attorney was rude but I had paid an annual fee, see how the next attorney they will assign me.
