It is important to acknowledge that the provided customer review for estate planning with Jay Keeton was highly negative, citing a significant lack of communication and billing issues. While this review highlights a specific client's dissatisfaction in one area of practice, the firm's broad recognitions and overall scale suggest a general professional standing. Prospective clients should consider the firm's overall profile and discuss communication expectations directly.
---As a large, established law firm like Whiteford Taylor & Preston LLP, traditional "promotions" in the retail sense are not typically offered. However, their commitment to client service often translates into transparent and structured billing practices that are beneficial for businesses and individuals seeking legal counsel in Maryland.
For a firm of this size and scope, fee arrangements commonly include:
- Hourly Rates: For many complex legal matters, particularly in litigation, corporate, or specialized areas, services are billed at an hourly rate. These rates are typically competitive for a firm of their caliber, and clients should expect clear communication regarding billing policies.
- Fixed Fees/Alternative Fee Arrangements (AFAs): For certain predictable legal services or specific phases of a project, the firm may offer flat fees or other alternative fee arrangements. This provides clients with cost certainty and can be particularly appealing for specific corporate transactions or document drafting.
- Value-Based Billing: For some engagements, particularly larger corporate projects, the firm may explore value-based billing structures that align fees more closely with the value delivered to the client, rather than just hours worked.
- Initial Consultations: While not universally free for all practice areas, potential clients are encouraged to contact the firm to inquire about their initial consultation policy. For business and complex legal matters, an initial meeting is crucial to assess the scope of work and discuss fee structures.
The firm's focus on cost-effective solutions, as mentioned in their overview, suggests an emphasis on providing value to their clients. It is always recommended for prospective clients in Maryland to have a direct conversation with Whiteford Taylor & Preston LLP regarding their specific legal needs and to obtain a clear understanding of the proposed fee arrangement before engaging their services. If I could give 0 stars, I would. This law firm was referred to us for estate planning, but the experience was incredibly disappointing. After sending over our operating agreement, I never heard back from Jay Keeton. Months went by, and then out of nowhere, I received a bill for over $900. Confused, I called to inquire, as I had received no communication or updates. The front desk claimed they had sent the trust documents. I disagreed, explaining that I had not been in contact with Mr. Keeton since February and that no work had been done. They said they would investigate and call me back, but instead, I received an email with what I assume was meant to be the missing documents. Despite this, the billing continued. To make matters worse, I could never reach anyone whenever I called. This lack of communication and professionalism is unacceptable. I would never recommend this law firm to anyone.
Great attorneys.
Great advice for potential franchise business
