Promotions or Special Offers

While explicit "promotions" in the commercial sense are not typically offered by professional legal services, especially for a practice of Mr. Whiteman's caliber, his approach to client engagement and billing serves as a significant benefit. Based on client feedback and typical practices for reputable attorneys:

  • Fairness in Billing: As noted by a client, Mr. Whiteman is recognized for his "fairness in billing." This implies transparent and reasonable fee structures, which is a valuable "offer" for clients seeking predictable and equitable legal costs.

  • Value for Long-Term Engagement: His willingness to work with clients for extended periods on complex issues (e.g., "nearly two years" in one real estate case) suggests a commitment to achieving results rather than just short-term engagement. This long-term dedication can be more valuable than any upfront discount.

Prospective clients are encouraged to contact the office directly to discuss their specific legal needs and to inquire about consultation processes and fee structures. For personal injury cases, attorneys often work on a contingency fee basis, meaning fees are only collected if the case is won or settled. While not explicitly stated for this firm, it's a common practice in that area of law.

Mr. Whiteman helped me with a difficult legal real estate issue that required tenacity, patience and a good deal of strategy. We worked together for nearly two years and were ultimately quite successful. His work is thorough, careful and well-planned. For this reason, I believe, we ultimately prevailed in our case. I would also characterize Mr. Whiteman as calm, considerate, knowledgable and of very high integrity. I was impressed by his promptness, fairness in billing, and personable nature. These qualities made working through difficult issues more pleasant than it might otherwise had been. Mr. Whiteman is very highly recommended.

Bill Whiteman is the only lawyer that I refer cases to in San Francisco. We have been friends since law school at Hastings College of the Law, 1978-1981. Over the years, I have referred many matters to him, including real estate transactional work, business litigation and personal injury cases. In every case, he has done an outstanding job and the client has been 100% satisfied. Bill is the man!

Update: Mr. Whiteman appears to be about as good at listening as he is at... reading. Although I do take it as an acknowledgment of sorts that this review is the only one he's ever responded to. Original post: This attorney is representing a landlord of mine who attempted to serve an unlawful "3-day notice to evict" on my commercial business back in September of 2020. I had been in communication with my landlord since March of 2020 regarding the financial impact COVID-19 and was then (and still am) protected under county and state wide ordinances intended to mitigate the catastrophic economic impact of this health pandemic on our local businesses. After forwarding Mr. Whiteman a copy of our local ordinances containing the pertinent language of these protections back in September of 2020, he has continued to support his clients in forwarding threats to sue both myself and my FATHER who was a co-signer on this particular lease back in 2014... this is a lease that was paid in full up through August of 2020... despite a ~96% loss in revenue that began on March 17th 2020... which continued through the first three months of government shutdowns resulting from this pandemic. We have actually averaged just barely over 30% of previous years revenues for the past 10 months running. Despite multiple efforts by both myself and my attorney to communicate our interest in working with this landlord within the realistic bounds of the severity of our own financial losses, this attorney has helped his clients to continue course as though there is no health crisis occurring in the United States and as though my business is simply "derelict" and wanting for the "professional integrity" to fulfill our contractual obligations. Among other things, I have been advised in writing from this attorney to "man up" and face my responsibilities... I have to confess... these sort of accusations seem to land pretty far afield. What is "derelict" and wanting for "professional integrity" is the admission by Mr Whiteman made to my attorney within the past 7 days that he has yet to read the local ordinances pertaining to the protections extended to businesses impacted by COVID-19 within the county... which were forwarded to him over 4 months ago. I understand everybody has a job to do. I also hope everybody understands that some of us are not just trying to do a "job" right now... Maybe Mr. Whiteman is the right guy for you... his appearant ability to isolate emotion and compartmentalize the moral relevance and long-term consequences of his decisions, advice, and behavior are no doubt exemplary in certain contexts. ... but then again... one must balance that with the fact that he apparently he can't be bothered to read pertinent law... even when conveniently forwarded to him... in PDF attachments. I don't generally believe in a culture of shame... but I honestly am not sure where else to go with this. Maybe we need a little bit more shame introduced back in our culture at this point. All I know is I WOULD be ashamed... if I behaved in the ways Mr Whiteman has.

I had a really stressful, complicated situation come about and I was referred to Bill Whiteman to help me figure it out. He is amazingly patient and understanding., He listened to everything that I said about my situation and looked for ways that he could help me. We spent 8 months working on a lawsuit and injunction and he was diligent is looking for ways to help us get to a settlement and get rid of the case against me. He found ways to help me understand the laws, and to educate me so that in the future I might protect myself somewhat. We area VERY small company and he did his very best at helping to keep thew cost low but at the same time provide me with excellent representation.

I was disgusted when I talked to Mr. Whiteman. I told him the name of the company I tried to sue, also spelled it for him, he was like "what? you work for TOFU?" The name of the company sounds NOTHING like the Asian food TOFU, I have an Asian accent by the way.
